DashLink Head Unit

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: August 6, 2026

DashLink Head Unit ("DashLink Head Unit", "we", "us", or "our") is an independent Android application designed to provide wireless connectivity and Android Auto-related functionality between compatible devices and vehicle head units.

DashLink Head Unit is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise associated with Google LLC or Android Auto. Android Auto is a product and trademark of Google LLC. Google, Android, Android Auto, and their respective logos and trademarks are the property of Google LLC.

This Privacy Policy explains how information may be collected, used, and shared when you use the DashLink Head Unit application.

By using DashLink Head Unit, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

Information Collection and Use

DashLink Head Unit does not operate its own backend server for collecting or storing users' personal information.

The application may use third-party services that automatically collect certain information for purposes such as analytics, crash reporting, advertising, application performance monitoring, and improving the service.

Depending on the services enabled in the application and your device configuration, information collected by these third-party services may include:

  • Device type and model
  • Android operating system version
  • Application version and configuration
  • IP address
  • Approximate location derived from IP address
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Application usage and interaction information
  • Crash and diagnostic information
  • Date and time of application usage
  • Network and connectivity information
  • Other technical information required by the third-party services

DashLink Head Unit does not intentionally collect sensitive personal information such as passwords, contacts, photographs, messages, or the contents of communications through its own servers.

Separately, the app reads a device identifier (Android ID) strictly for local trial-licensing purposes, as described below in "Device Identifier for Trial Licensing." This identifier is not transmitted to our servers or to any third party.

Permissions Used by the App

DashLink Head Unit requests certain device permissions that are required to provide its core connectivity functionality between your device and a vehicle head unit. These permissions are used locally on your device to establish and maintain the connection and are not used to collect personal information for our own servers.

  • Location (Fine Location, Nearby Wi-Fi Devices): Used to discover and connect to nearby Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices (including your vehicle's head unit). On some Android versions, the operating system requires location permission to perform Bluetooth or Wi-Fi scanning, even though DashLink Head Unit does not use this permission to track or record your physical location.
  • Bluetooth (Scan, Connect, Advertise, Bluetooth Admin): Used to discover, pair, and maintain a connection with your vehicle's head unit or other compatible Bluetooth accessories.
  • Wi-Fi (Access/Change Wi-Fi State, Change Network State): Used to create, join, or manage Wi-Fi connections (including Wi-Fi hotspot functionality) needed to project or mirror content to your vehicle's head unit.
  • USB Host and USB Accessory: Used to detect and communicate with your device or head unit when connected via a USB cable.
  • Microphone (Record Audio) and Modify Audio Settings: Used to route and manage audio (such as calls or voice commands) between your device and the vehicle head unit during an active connection. Audio is processed locally for the purpose of the connection and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted to our servers.
  • Foreground Service (including Connected Device and Media Playback types): Used to keep the connection to the head unit and any active media playback running reliably while the app is in use, and to show a persistent notification indicating the app is active.
  • Notifications (Post Notifications): Used to inform you of connection status and app activity.
  • Receive Boot Completed: Used to allow the app to restore relevant background services after your device restarts, if applicable.
  • Wake Lock: Used to keep the device processor active as needed to maintain a stable connection during use.
  • Internet and Access Network State: Used to support app functionality and any third-party services described in this Privacy Policy (such as analytics, crash reporting, and advertising).
  • Package Visibility (queries for Android Auto-related packages): Used solely to detect whether Android Auto (Google's app) is installed on your device, so DashLink Head Unit can launch its own self-mode interface when Android Auto is not present. This does not grant access to any data belonging to those apps.

None of the above permissions are used to read, collect, or transmit the content of your calls, messages, contacts, or media files to us.

Third-Party Services

DashLink Head Unit may use third-party services to provide analytics, crash reporting, advertising, notifications, and other application functionality.

Third-party services used by the application may include:

  • Google Play Services
  • Firebase Analytics
  • Firebase Crashlytics
  • Google AdMob
  • Facebook
  • Unity
  • OneSignal
  • AppLovin

These services may collect information from your device as described in their respective privacy policies.

DashLink Head Unit is not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party services. Please review their respective privacy policies for more information about how they collect, use, and process information.

Analytics

DashLink Head Unit may use Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with the application and to help us improve its functionality, stability, and user experience.

Analytics information may include application usage events, device information, application version, and other technical information.

Crash Reporting

DashLink Head Unit may use Firebase Crashlytics to identify and diagnose application crashes and technical problems.

Crash and diagnostic information may include device information, operating system information, application version, crash logs, timestamps, and other technical information relevant to diagnosing application failures.

This information is used to improve the stability and reliability of DashLink Head Unit.

Advertising

DashLink Head Unit may use third-party advertising services, including Google AdMob, AppLovin, Unity, and Facebook, to display advertisements.

These providers may collect and process information such as advertising identifiers, device information, IP address, approximate location, application usage information, and advertising interaction information for purposes including delivering, measuring, and improving advertisements.

The collection and use of advertising information is governed by the respective privacy policies of these third-party providers.

Notifications

DashLink Head Unit may use OneSignal or other third-party notification services to deliver application notifications.

Such services may process technical information necessary to deliver notifications to your device, including device and application identifiers and notification-related information.

Log Data

In the event of an application error or crash, third-party services such as Firebase Crashlytics may automatically collect information known as Log Data.

Log Data may include information such as your device's IP address, device name, operating system version, application version, application configuration, the date and time of your use of the application, crash information, and other diagnostic statistics.

This information is used to identify, investigate, and resolve technical issues and improve application performance.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

DashLink Head Unit itself does not directly use cookies.

However, third-party services and SDKs integrated into the application may use cookies, mobile identifiers, SDK technologies, or similar mechanisms to provide analytics, advertising, measurement, security, and other services.

You may be able to control certain advertising and privacy settings through your Android device or Google account settings.

Device Identifier for Trial Licensing

DashLink Head Unit reads your device's Android ID (Settings.Secure.ANDROID_ID) for the sole purpose of managing free trial eligibility — so that a trial period is not repeatedly reset by reinstalling the app or clearing app data.

This identifier is used locally on your device only. The raw Android ID is not transmitted off the device, sent to our servers, or shared with any third party.

Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, and Device Connectivity

DashLink Head Unit requires certain device connectivity capabilities to provide its core functionality.

Depending on the features being used, the application may interact with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, and other device connectivity technologies to establish communication between compatible devices and vehicle head units.

DashLink Head Unit uses these technologies to provide its intended connectivity functionality. The application does not operate its own server to store the contents of communications exchanged between your phone and compatible head units.

Microphone and Audio

DashLink Head Unit may access your device's microphone and audio settings solely to support audio routing and communication features (such as calls or voice commands) between your device and the connected head unit. Audio is processed locally on your device for the purpose of the active connection and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted to our servers.

Android Auto Disclaimer

DashLink Head Unit is an independent third-party application and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or otherwise associated with Google LLC or Android Auto.

Android Auto is a product of Google LLC. The Android Auto name, trademarks, logos, and related intellectual property belong to Google LLC.

Any references to Android Auto within DashLink Head Unit, including the detection of the Android Auto application for compatibility purposes, are solely intended to describe compatibility or functionality related to the Android Auto platform. Such references do not imply any partnership, endorsement, certification, or affiliation with Google LLC.

We use third-party companies and services to support the operation and improvement of DashLink Head Unit.

These third parties may process information for purposes including:

  • Providing analytics services

  • Displaying and measuring advertisements
  • Delivering notifications
  • Improving application performance
  • Understanding application usage
  • Providing other services required for application functionality

Third-party providers may process information in accordance with their own privacy policies and terms.

Security

We value the security of information associated with the application. We rely on established third-party service providers and commercially reasonable measures to protect information processed through the services we use.

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

DashLink Head Unit is not specifically directed toward children under the age of 13.

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information directly from children under 13 through our own services.

If you believe that a child has provided personal information through the application, please contact us so that we can take appropriate action.

Data Retention

DashLink Head Unit does not maintain its own backend database for storing users' personal information.

Information collected through third-party services, such as analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or notification services, may be retained by those providers according to their respective privacy policies and retention practices.
